1. True or False? The main purpose of reciprocal linking is to gain higher ranks in the search engines -

  1. To add value to your website

  2. To give your website visitors reason to return to your website

2. True or False? Using LinksManager will get my website banned from the search engines -

False - Using LinksManager will not alone get your website banned from the search engines. There are however, many practices that are seen as "bad" by the search engines that are unrelated to LinksManager.

LinksManager is a tool that helps webmasters to create thoughtful, organized, links pages that are search engine friendly. Your links pages are static HTML that contain normal hyperlinks, with no added scripts or code that would interfere with search engine spiders. No LinksManager banners or 3rd party advertising is required or forced on to your links pages. Furthermore, your links pages are hosted on your web server, under your domain and URL, at the location of your choice.

When using LinksManager, links swaps are manually initiated and approved by humans one link at a time. LinksManager does not employ the use of doorway pages or employ cloaking or the generating of text that can only be seen by search engines but not by site visitors.

A recent post from a Google representative in a popular online webmaster forum reads:

Results in our index change regularly based on ongoing, automated processes aimed at improving the quality and content of our search results. Changes you may observe include, but are not limited to, addition of new sites, changes in the ranking of existing sites, sites falling out of the index or getting dropped and site's content fluctuating between old and new content.

We realize these changes can be confusing. However, as stated above, these processes are completely automated and not indicative of wrong-doing or penalization of individual sites. Inclusion and ranking in Google is a free service. We currently include over 3 billion pages in our index and it is certainly our intent to represent the content of the Internet fairly and accurately. The ongoing changes you have observed are part of this effort.

While there are no guarantees that your page will consistently appear in our index or appear with a particular rank, we do offer guidelines on our website for building a "crawler-friendly" site. You can find these guidelines at http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html. Following these guidelines may increase the likelihood that your site will show up consistently in Google search results.

In addition, please note that we do not manually assign keywords to your site, nor do we manipulate the ranking of your site in our search results. This process is completely automated and depends on a page's PageRank. For more information on how Google ranks websites, please see http://www.google.com/technology/index.html.

We hope the information we have provided above is helpful to you. Due to the tremendous volume of information and help requests we receive, we are not always able to provide personal attention to questions pertaining to individual websites. If this response did not adequately resolve your question, we hope that you will visit the webmaster section of our site at http://www.google.com/webmasters/ . In an effort to better address your needs, we've dedicated this entire section of our website to answering common webmaster questions, listing Google's quality requirements and recommendations, and much more.

Of course, we cannot anticipate and answer everyone's questions on our website. Realizing this, we have also created a Google discussion group on Google Groups where Google users and webmasters can connect to share their vast knowledge and experience. You can access this group at http://groups.google.com/groups?q=google.public.support.general. If you have already checked the webmaster section of our website and haven't found an answer, we encourage you to post your question to the Google Support group.

Regards,

The Google Team

3. True or False? LinksManager is a "link farm" -

False - A link farm is a page on a website that contains many links to many different genres of websites without regard for organization or content.

LinksManager is not a link farm, it is a tool for webmasters used to organize their links into meaningful categories, automatically determine reciprocation and deadlink status, reduce HTML coding to a minimum, perform statistical analysis on those links, and automate other time-consuming tasks.

4. True or False? LinksManager harvests links and email addresses from other websites -

False - We believe creating links pages should be a thoughtful, organized process performed by humans. We believe links should be added to a website one-by-one, and based on the other website's merits - not their own search engine ranking. It is not technically possible nor desireable for LinksManager to harvest links or email addresses from other websites.
