1. What is Response Rank™?? -

ResponseRank is a number, 1-10, calculated for your site based on the time you take to respond to relevant link exchange requests from users of LinksManager.com, LinkPartners sister site.

ResponseRank was developed to provide webmasters with more information about which sites are more likely to respond to a relevant link exchange request promptly.

ResponseRank also is utilized to order sites listed in LinkPartners.com. Sites are now listed in LinkPartners.com not by alphabetical order, but by ResponseRank. Sites with a higher ResponseRank are listed first. Sites with a lower ResponseRank are listed last. And sites with a ResponseRank of 1 or 0 will be automatically removed from the LinkPartners database after a reasonable time period.

2. What is the purpose of ResponseRank? -

Any webmaster that has ever requested a relevant link exchange knows that waiting for a response to a link exchange request can take weeks, sometimes months, or the link exchange can be ignored altogether!

Waiting for responses to relevant link exchange requests can be frustrating and time consuming for all parties.

ResponseRank was designed to take some of the guess work out of link exchanging.

For example, requesting a relevant link exchange with a site that has a ResponseRank of 5 or higher provides some manner of assurance that the link exchange request will be responded to in days - instead of weeks.

3. How is ResponseRank calculated? -

ResponseRank is calculated based on a simple algorithm that monitors the time between when you receive a link exchange request and when you respond to the link exchange request sent from the LinkPartners system.

Before ResponseRank, webmasters many times would ignore link exchange requests that they did not want to reciprocate with.

With ResponseRank, you are encouraged to always respond, even if you are declining the link exchange request. LinkPartners sends link exchange requests to you via HTML email with simple form controls that allows you to approve or decline the link exchange request.

When you approve or decline the link exchange request via the HTML email that LinkPartners puts in your inbox, you receive credit for responding in a timely manner - and this increases your ResponseRank.

ResponseRank is calculated based on your response time, not based on if you link with the site requesting a link from you.

If you will always respond within a day or two to link exchange requests sent to you from LinkPartners.com using the controls in the link exchange HTML email, your ResponseRank should be 6 or higher in most cases.

5. Will my ResponseRank go down if I decline link requests? -

No. Your ResponseRank won't go down if you decline link requests (unless you are taking weeks to respond!). Your ResponseRank will stay up if you respond to link exchange requests in a timely manner (within one week of receipt).

LinkPartners understands you decide who you will and will not link to. We encourage you to decline irrelevant link requests not useful for your end users. As long as you do not wait too long (over a week or two) to respond to link requests, your ResponseRank should not go down when declining link requests.

6. Will my ResponseRank go up if I approve link requests? -

Not necessarily.. it depends on how long it takes you to respond. Your ResponseRank won't go up automatically if you approve link requests (unless you are responding very quickly!).

ResponseRank is calculated based on your response time, not based on approval or decline of the link exchange request.

LinkPartners understands you decide who you will and will not link to. We encourage you to decline irrelevant link requests not useful for your end users.

7. What happens to my ResponseRank if I ignore link exchange requests? -

Your response rank will go down. And every time you ignore a request, it will go down further.

Eventually, LinkPartners system administrators will remove sites with ResponseRanks of 1 or 0 from the LinkPartners.com directory.

9. I am a LinksManager user. Will I also receive the LinkPartners HTML email anytime I receive a link request from another LinksManager user? -

No. The HTML email only is sent to non-LinksManager users who are listed for free in the LinkPartners database.

LinksManager users will receive the normal mailer advising you that someone has requested a link exchange request with you. Pending link requests awaiting your editorial approval will be waiting for you in the LinksManager pending queue as normal.

Responding to link exchange requests in your LinksManager pending queue will affect your ResponseRank. If you check your pending queue and approve/delete more often, your ResponseRank will rise. If you check your pending queue less frequently, your ResponseRank may go down.

11. My ResponseRank is low (or null)! How do I improve my ResponseRank?? -

During the beta period, most webmasters listed in LinkPartners.com did not know that ResponseRank was being calculated based on response times. If you ignored link requests sent to you by LinkPartners.com during this beta testing period, it would have lowered your ResponseRank.

Engineers will be tweaking the ResponseRank algorithm over the coming months so that as you being to participate in the new system, link requests you may have ignored during the testing period will not affect your ResponseRank score. In the meantime, you can improve your ResponseRank by promptly responding to all HTML emails sent to you by LinkPartners.com. Remember you do not have to approve all link exchange requests that you receive. ResponseRank only monitors the time you take to respond to a link exchange request generated by LinkPartners.com. It does not calculate your score based on who you approve or reject, your score is only calculated based on how long you take to respond to the new LinkPartners HTML email.

You can improve the rate at which you receive link requests by opening up your swap permissions. If you are a LinksManager user, login to your LinksManager account and then under LINKPARTNERS PREFERENCES, adjust your swap permissions to allow more requests to come in from more categories. If only have a free listing in LinkPartners.com, login and then click SWAP PERMISSIONS.

Please remember that by opening up your swap permissions, you may receive irrelevant link requests. Respond to them by declining them in a timely manner to improve your ResponseRank. Approve relevant link requests as normal.

If your ResponseRank does not come up after a few weeks of working in the new system, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to look into your score for you.

12. Is there a way to temporarily remove my listing from LinkPartners so when I am on vacation, my ResponseRank doesn't go down? -

Yes. Login to your listing then under Modify Listing, you will see at the bottom:

"Temporarily hide your listing?
(for maintaining ResponseRank while on vacation)"

Select it to YES and your listing will be temporarily removed from the directory. Don't forget to turn off this setting later.
